user reviews of the Rose and Crown, Cannington

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I was encouraged into this pub as its on Somerset CAMRA pub trail.
An old building with a nice garden (somewhat spoiled by the proximity of the outside bogs)
Inside, there is a lot of paraphenalia and curios (AKA junk) hanging from the ceiling gathering dust, and lots of old pump clips on display, which the Camra boys seem to consider to be a sign of a good pub.
Camra are trying to promote local breweries by encouraging publicans to stock them; the ales on sale here consisted of two, GK IPA and Abbbott, all the way from Suffolk (best part of 250 miles away) and 1 from Scotland. There seems to be some tie with Greedy King, and the pub was reminiscent of one of the old Magic pub co's outlets that were bought by GK in the 1990's
The deuchers I tried was as sour as the barmaids face, and I could not finish it.
A pub well worth avoiding, Camra should be ashamed. Dont go there

The reviews below mine sum the situation up nicely. If you're in the area, be sure to get a drink here. They don't do food.

we love going to this pub. The landlord may seem unfriendly to non locals however some days he can be quite lovely. all the clocks are stopped at ten to eight (ten'D'Eight) as the Landlord was born in 1950. Great selection of beer and nice beer garden in the summer. pool table and children are welcome - mostly in the garden but if the weather is bad we've never been stopped from going in! Enjoy! Then go for a meal at the Friendly Spirit round the corner! great!

It's a lovely pub with good ale.Locals very friendly although I did notice a Wicker Man at the back!Large collection of clocks, none of which work.Would go back should I find myself in that neck of the woods one day.

Cosy 17th century village local serving excellent Abbot Ale with Green King IPA, Old Speckled Hen and Deuchars on as standard, plus occasional guests. Real fire, tiled floor, large collection of bric-a-brac adorning every available surface. Friendly staff and a good local crowd. Dogs welcome. Return as often as I can afford it!
