An old coaching inn which is now a Best Western hotel, which usually guarantees a reasonable standard. The bar is small, dark and cosy. One beer - Bombardier - was available on handpump. It was fine, if a little warm. I'd be quite happy to have a beer in this pub again. It's certainly preferable to most of the dives in Stevenage. Number11 - 1 Jun 2014 11:20 |
After ale was totally removed from here, it has now been brought back. Usually only 1 but have tried Adnams Lighthouse and Bombardier both were fine whilst washing down a curry in the Indian restaurant at the back. Definitely improved recently. Worth a visit following recent times of pure lager hell. Bernie5 - 30 Dec 2013 13:24 |
Got drawn back in to here because 'there ain't much else around'. Got served a bit swifter this time (always give somewhere a 2nd chance). However there was only Pride on and it was watery and second rate. Tried it twice and not happy with it - won't be a third time. anonymous - 16 May 2011 00:18 |
Going through a hotel foyer to a small bar does kind of put you off,,,,, but once you get through to the quaint little bar nothing puts you off eeven more thanit being unstaffed. The poor bloke before me hadbeen there long enough before I noticed a buzzer to press for service,,, I pressed it twice - the locals hthen chirped in sayin someone should pres the buzzer. It's a hotel and the bar doesn't seem to matter - got fed up with waiting so went elsewhere. Unless you have an afternoon to waste I wouldn't bother with the place. anonymous - 5 Feb 2011 21:43 |
The Best Westen logo on the wall might make your heart sink, but the bar is an excellent, cosy little pubby place with a good choice of ales at fair prices. Coped admirably with the varying demands of West Ham fans watching their side escape relegation on the telly and raucously excited Salisbury City fans on their way to the Conference.
