A week away (Monday and Friday nights). Traditional ancient pub, good beer (Sam Smith's OBB) good food and conversation with a few customers and the landlord (Mon). Friday was a bit busier so only had a beer - interestingly the only pub on this bit of Newport High Street that didn't have door security. ellisref - 9 Jun 2018 13:30 |
So does this pub still serve ssobb on handpull ? Planning on a visit to Newport and fancy to reaquainte myself with a this iconic Yorkshire brew. tradaleboy - 2 Nov 2013 14:06 |
A real quality Samuel Smiths pub that offers all of the usual Sam Smiths fair. I went for a pint of the Double stout & it was excellent. Old fashioned timber interior, loads of historic pictures on the walls including a great homage to the trainsporter bridge. Nice welcome from the landlord, with around half a dozen locals at the bar chatting away. I can understand why this gets all the accolades it's a cracking little pub. lezford - 29 Sep 2013 13:56 |
best pub in central Newport, yes I know but it's an accolade of sorts. hillsidepaul - 18 Apr 2011 14:23 |
Built in the 16th century, said to be Newport's oldest pub. Excellent quality Sam Smith's beers and German-style beers (lagers). schaf - 3 Aug 2010 19:47 |
