Recently moved to Andover and this is the best pub by far. It has a good sized pool room with its own bar, a fantastic juke box, great atmosphere, traditional old world decor and friendly staff. The beer is competitively priced and kept well. Apart from event nights it does seem a little quiet though and I hope this wonderful old pub doesn't eventually have to close. I think it needs a darts and pool team to liven it up a bit. Serving basic food (sausage, egg and chips) at night would help.I'd eat there every night if I could! This is a pub worth saving. Please God, don't let it become a Weatherspoons! Bitterperson - 17 Feb 2012 09:22 |
The oldest pub in Andover and a lot of history, generally well kept couple of ales from the Greene King line in IPA and Abbott. Very small pool room but otherwise decent sized front and rear bars. Maybe not as trendy a place now for the younger drinkers of Andover but a good place to visit for a few drinks with friends. Anubis99 - 27 May 2008 14:32 |
I like this. Amazingly quiet - how do they keep going? Perfect place if you want to sit and read on your own, or have a 1:1 chat with another person, and not be disturbed. I guess younger people would say it lacks 'atmosphere', but it's clean. And the one barmaid when I was there was very friendly (and cute). Decent pint of Abbott; they also have IPA. A decent pub with a good selection of beers. Mostly coming from the Green King stable. Nice decor and reasonably friendly staff. Does seem to be pretty quiet though. Simon_T - 11 Dec 2007 20:17 |
Greene King pub with well-kept beers. First pub you reach on walking into town from the train station, and handy for the bus station too. Good place to go alone or to wait for someone else because there are quiet corners where you can sit and read or just enjoy the ambience and background (60s/70s) music. Trev - 16 Jun 2007 09:54 |
