A pub that you feel you can drink in without being made to feel that you are taking up valuable eating space. This pub used to be a stuffy, pretentious and overpriced gastro pub. It now serves good beer and good food, and is welcoming and family-friendly. carricksmash - 6 Jun 2012 13:12 |
THe landlord has a sarcastic streak and if you meet him on his own terms he is good company and very friendly. The beer is perfectly kept and the food excellent. I had a shared prawn platter starter which was very well cooked and presented, followed by an excellent and large portion of a lamb and mint pie and chips which was beautifully flavoured. Pudding a box made of chocolate with fruit coulis and chocolate mousse filling. Excellent and reasonably priced for the area. We will be going back again. f01kie - 28 Nov 2009 17:21 |
Recently a new landlord. Came from the Crown at Sydenham. He has a fairly unique disposition. I have eaten here a couple of times but although the thai green curry was excellent I was disappointed to discover it was bought in. I read in the Parish Magazine that the 5 lunch special was back by popular demand. I ordered the sausage and yorkshire. Landlord's response was 'Oh it's that time of the week then is it?'. Good attitude (not). Obviously I'd be spending not just 5 but also having 2 glasses of wine and a dessert or cheese. i.e. 21 in total. Or I would if I ever went back which is not likely. He will drive the customers away eventually. Warren_Luddle - 28 Mar 2009 12:44 |
a friendly pub with bags of character . good conversation from the host who made me and my daughter most welcome. very good affordable menu and a pint of real ale to die for. lots of further improvements are planned for this great hostelry which also has a child friendly garden. miketheglass - 14 Jan 2008 19:22 |
