A little anonymous perhaps, it would be hard to recall if included in a crawl of York's many other distinctive pubs, but the Nag's Head seems to serve it's community more than adequately. Despite it's unfortunate connection with a contemporary York heartache, it maintains a spirit of positiveness with charity raising social events advertised throughout the bar and has a general atmosphere of earthy cheerfulness. Added to that my pint of John Smith's on cask was most agreeable, which was against expectations. ILooklikeme - 19 Jul 2011 10:31 |
Great food, Great beer, Great value! Had the pleasure of lunching with my family at the Nags Head at Heworth recently having not visited for many years. The pub was clean and inviting and the choice of cask beers and lagers gave plenty of choice for everybody! I was delighted to see John Smiths Cask (which tasted as fantastic as it looked!) as living on the otherside of the Pennines this a rare treat. There were also offerings from York Brewery available. The lunch menu was wide and varied and offered exceptional value for money. The double fried hand cut chips were to die for! Having had such a good experience of the Nags Head I certainly wont be leaving years before my next visit! big_yorkshire_man - 29 May 2010 14:46 |

In desperate need of a lick of paint. Very dreary and dark pub. Beer is usually pretty good, however in here. MountainMan - 8 Apr 2008 17:52 |
Bit of a locals pub with mainly older pipe smoking blokes, but generally friendly and the beer is decent enough and reasonably priced. Main bar is quite narrow so can be difficult to see the large screen if your stuck towards the back. Pretty average, but nice enough to go to for a quiet drink. hadleighhammer - 12 Jan 2007 19:37 |
