Had problems with their ales being off in the past, stomach aches, etc etc, went Again tonight 7th September 2014, tried a ale called fall over, the bar lady only got one pint out of it before it ran out, so I had a taster of one of the other ales, tasted of strong vinegar and eggy, clearly off, passed it to my dad who has been a firm ale drinker / critic for over 40 years, he tried a bit and instantly said "NOPE!" so I just said "I'll just have a blonde " an ale of the same make, a blonde pale ale, took it outside, ( I normally find pale ales ok so I didn't question it) took 1 sip, "f***s sake" is all I said, took it back, said it was the same, strong vinegar taste and eggy smell. Asked to taste another one of that makes ales, also vinegar, I just sighed and was deliberating whether to get a refund or have something that isn't kept in the same way, the bar lady said "well you can't make your mind up now I'll just serve this customer and wait for you to make your mind up " took a strongbow instead. Very disappointing, obviously don't tend to their drinks / drinks pipes very well. At least 2 pints worth sit in the pipes, probably been sat for a while and gone off. Won't be returning there again. Next pubs ales were fine. So not my taste buds ale_critic_64 - 7 Sep 2014 21:23 |
I'm not sure if it's because I don't have a taste for Old Mill beers but, having tried a selection here over a few years I can't rate the beer here as anything other than average. The pub itself is an OK fairly busy place, don't be put off by my opinion of the beer, it may be to your taste! Islander - 23 Nov 2013 18:16 |
Excellent pub popular with locals and students alike. The only pub in York owned by the Old Mill Brewery, who do a great selection. It used to also have Beamish Black on tap, but this has unfortunately disappeared. Plenty of cosy snug areas and also open plan fitted seats. Highly recommended. MountainMan - 8 Apr 2008 17:39 |
Nice pub, owned by Old mill brewery (from Snaith) so they serve all their hand-pulls. Pleasant atmosphere, but can get crowded on quiz nights and when large groups of students pass through on way to town alistair_cross - 15 Dec 2005 22:50 |
