user reviews of the Church House, Harberton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The pubs location within the village of Harberton is really quite pleasant next to the church in the square.

The pub too is very traditional with beams and a huge open fire.

However this place really needs to get it's act together first by stop over charging for their beer and wine and second get a decent affordable lunchtime menu, yes I know this is the south hams but this pub is off the beaten track and the whole time we were there we did not see a single local come in and that is never a good sign.

A lot of potential here is being wasted.

'Normal service resumed' Sept 08 - nearly 5 years after their 'retirement', freeholders David and Jenny have taken over again, the real ales are superb, the atmosphere is great and the home-cooked food including much local produce is superb, but it's still a pub! Well supported again by locals. The good old times are back. It's my local so it has to be a 10. That's what it deserves.

excellent food and beer with a friendly service, and manages just about to be a pub rather than a restaurant.9/10, I will never give a ten unless the beer is free and the women are available and very dirty.

A new landlord amd landlady took over this pub early in November 2005. The pub has been run down in recent years, but today - 17th Nov (just over a week since they took over!) it has completely changed with high quality food (the landlord is a qualified chef). Instead of the few couples the total number of people for lunch touched 50. Word had spread very quickly and judging by the compliments that owners and staff received, will continue to do so. Apart from the excellent fare, there is a choice of 3 good ales beers, lagers, Sam's draught cider, wines and malt whiskies. Not to be missed.
