user reviews of the Greyhound, Old Walls

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This is a very difficult one to call actually, it's like 3 Pubs in one, with a small room at the front, and a tiny Bar, which is almost impossible to get served in, especially on the Sunday we called in. Then a big room a bit further down on the left, like a School Canteen in fact, with tables laid out in regimental form, also with a Bar, that wasn't open. So we really didn't know where to go to get served, but tried another room further down the corridor, which was also a small Bar, which seemed cozy, and had a button which said " Please ring for Service " which we did, all to no avail. Then the Guy sitting at the Bar, with his Pint, made us laugh, when he said........Pointless ringing that Pal, It's Sunday, better off going down to " The Dolphin " just down the road, at least, you will get served, which we did, and quite nice it was too.......

Can't say it was a good or bad experience actually at this " Greyhound " Pub, as we never got served, but it was VERY busy with Sunday Lunches, so that HAS to be a good sign in these troubled times for the Pub Trade .........

Called in here on the recent Bank Holiday, and found the place to be very busy ( bad weather )and quite hard work to get served, despite going from Bar to Bar, we had to wait about 15 minutes just to get a drink. Thank God we didn't order food !!!!......

Forget the previous comments-the pub is now under new management(Chris & Emily are excellent hosts).
There is a wide choice of real ales and their lagers and other beers are of a very high standard. The food is always well presented and also of a high standard. Try some of the home-made specialities(Greyhound chicken, house curries, steak and ale pie and the mouth-watering lasagne).Sunday lunch is always well attended with a choice of three meats(you can even ask for a slice of each!)accompanied by a wide variety of fresh local vegetables.Booking is recommended for most evenings, but is a must at weekends! Expect a wait after you order, but it is well worth it.
In the colder seasons, coal/log fires are a very welcome sight which only adds to the friendly and warm welcome that you will receive.

The food here is superb. Obviously the bean tin is iffy but that has nothing to do with food. More importantly, the beer is always superb, with normally at least 4 real ales on.
The place is normally packed and the large car parks full at peak times. Not bad for the middle of Planet Zod. If, at off peak times there is no-one serving in the front bar, most people have the presence of mind to walk 8 yards to the back bar which always has a friendly bunch of regulars gathered.
I live 10 miles away and visit occasionally. If you're in the area, bring your walking boots and go to the Greyhound - but please also bring a few brain cells.

We should have realised we were on Planet Zod when we entered this place and read the notice on the bar "Ring the bell if you want service" We rang it and a young lady duly appeared and took our food and drink order. I think that the beer I ordered was listed as Smoothies and it was about the most disgusting pint that I have ever tasted. I would imagine that if you put it in the garden to get rid of slugs even they would leave it.The food arrived quickly so I thought that I would eat then and change the beer for a lager (at my expense). My prawn baguette was superb but the missus was not too happy with the baked potato with baked beans filling..there must be a bean shortage in this part of Gower as we counted 30 beans so I would suggest that if you are partial to this snack you take your own beans and ask the cook (?) to heat them up for you.Went to the barto change my drink where two guys were waiting and they said that they had rung the bell some minutes earlier so I went to the loo and passed the barmaid deep in conversation on her mobile. I think this is a pub to be avoided if you like bitter and baked beans in a baked spud
