Where do I start. A family day out we ended up here as the reviews suggested it's a great place. We arrived on a sat midday and luckily found a table but without a view. Not a worry though when you are hungry with a 21 month old. Trying to order at the bad is great fun especially when no one likes to make eye contact with you.. Very odd indeed. Anyway we ordered the fried haddock and chips which arrived pretty quickly. Eating away merrily enjoying my plate, my husband jolts as he's just tasted a very bad fish. Although the tail end tasted fine. So he takes the plate to the batman and explains this strange taste which only occurred nearer the head of the fish. Batman days ok I will tell the chef. Five minutes later we are told by the batman the chef says all fish is fresh today. My husband explains he agrees with them as my fish and my sons taste find it is just his fish well part of it. Another five minutes late a woman who states she is the manage arrives at our table saying we asked to see her... Which we didn't. My husband explains the odd taste and she says it's fresh. My husband then said bring the plate and smell it. She then said so what do you want me to do about it?? Really?? We explained again we didn't want a free meal or money back we just wanted them to know. She walked off then came back and said the plate is in the bin so shall I take your wife's and sons food and bin them too??? Why??? She didn't listen.. Ours tasted fine plus I was still eating.. So we explained yet again the whole saga and my husband said he was appalled by her customer service and that we didn't want anything but she could have apologised and have him a coffee at least .. She said but you ate half the fish... Never ever go to this place..there is no customer service and they really need training. Settetuani - 22 Feb 2014 13:43 |
This pub is in a great location, and maybe that's why the food is a little pricey but it was good quality stuff. Good selection of ales, friendly staff. Probably more of an eating place that a drinking pub but the tap side looked inviting enough. Would go back. dyyony - 9 Apr 2012 22:45 |
Pretty much full of people eating when i came in...food looked and smelt good, price was okay as well. Good choice of ales on tap, 7 i think in total. Had 2 very good pints, one of them was a local Farmer's Ale. Sat in the "locals" room and had a chat with a very pleasant old guy about beer, london and life ibn general. All in all a very good visit, nothing bad to say and definetly the best pub i visited in Maldon...the Blue Boar would of won but the electricity was out! lezford - 24 Jan 2012 13:27 |
Been in and out of here over the years - last night had 7 ales on incl. two local Farmers Ales and guest from Dark Star called Hopback - this was delicious. Always friendly enough in here but as noted previous it can get rammed in summer. I have never ventured in front bar and have been told the locals can get anal if 'strangers' go in there without an invite - knobbers! kernott1 - 29 Dec 2010 15:21 |
Went into this pub last Saturday into the locals front bar. Barman too busy having his own drink and talking to a local to serve me. Another unemployed bar maid made eye contact twice but didn't come over and serve and yet another barmaid had her back to the bar doing nothing. Barman then served another local who came in after me. Not great customer service so I walked out. wildnight - 12 Jun 2010 22:56 |
