The décor remains as described below and makes a change from the usual in rural North Yorkshire. However, music much too loud and not suitable for a lunchtime.
The beer choice is disappointing. as a free house could stock from the excellent local micros but does not. House beer is from Thwaites and often something from a national brewer. A welcome change has been Castle Rock Harvest Pale but was cloudy.
The good value lunchtime menu has been dropped and prices have increased significantly. There is better value in other local pubs.

I visited The White Heifer recently and on walking in the door was pleasantly suprised with both the decor and the relaxed atmosphere. We hadn't booked a table, luckily the place was far from busy but from this moment our experience turned into a military operation. The owner was extremely pushy to the point of being rude and very loud, on several occasions shouting at staff abruptly through the dining area. The food was over priced and in my case the steak was overcooked and quite dry. There are definitely nicer places in the area to have a better dining experience.

Visited the other day to discover that this is no longer a pub, more a restaurant that has a bar area serving drinks. To get a better idea my friend and I booked a table for the following Saturday night.
At 7:30 the place was busy and we were invited to sit in a small seating area below the obligatory plasma TV showing Sky Sports. That said, the TV was on mute and the service was very friendly. We were given menus to choose from and served drinks - there being three ales on offer including TT Landlord. I opted for a golden ale (that I've now forgotten the name of) which was tasty but wayyyy too cold!! Having chosen our dishes we were shown to our table in a very modern looking but pleasant enough dining area.

Food was on the whole very good with an imaginative and varied choice of dishes. I went for crayfish cocktail which was delicious, followed by stuffed chicken in parma ham, also equally tasty, ending up with a selection of Swaledale cheeses. Total cost including a bottle of decent wine was just under 80. On departing at around 10:30 we did notice that the bar was quite busy with drinkers, so maybe there are some for whom it's still more a pub.

On the whole I would say it's a good place to dine if you're in the Richmond area, so worth a visit. However, if you're after a quaint country pub and a good range of ales, then you might want to look further afield, as this isn't really the focus or feel of the new Heifer.

Another re-fit refurbishment wine bar feel to the place. Cant fault the atmosphere though, beer middling.

its just a great feeling when you try a pub at random and it turns out to be fantastic... the food, the service and the whole style of the place was just so well done... ran by a mother and son combo who are just born to do it... i was actually dissapointed to learn they were closing down for refurbishment as i loved the interior design... but i will be excited to return and see the new heifer...
