A decent and traditional pub located on the outskirts of Weston, it makes a welcome change from all the rather trashy bars in the centre. Its a good sized pub, with a long, single bar at the front. To the left is a pool table, with a small LCD TV on the wall. Opposite the bar there are a couple of fruit machines and a larger plasma, and in the right hand corner is a dart board. Decor consists of a dark green painted wallpaper on the lower half of the walls, with unpainted wallpaper above. The ceiling is that curious sandy colour you get in pubs, presumably designed to hide the nicotine stains. Flooring was mostly carpet, with a few tiles around the wood panelled bar. At the rear was a far more contemporary area that looked to be more geared up for dining, with freshly painted maroon walls, a whitewashed ceiling and large doors opening out on to the patio. There looked to be further seating upstairs, although I did not investigate this. There was an attractive beer garden at the back which was a very pleasant spot on a recent sunny afternoon. Beers on tap were 6X, Butcombe and Doom Bar. Ciders were Blackthorn, Bulmers and Thatchers Gold. Blackthorn - 31 Jul 2011 20:33 |
As a pub that relies heavily on the food side of the business and therefore one that has to attract more than just the locals, this place is sadly lacking in atmosphere and has quite possibly the most inhospitable bar staff I have ever been served by, one can only presume that the three very loud and very drunk young men in the bar when I visited (and I use the term men very loosely!) spend enough money each day to keep the business afloat. The beer garden is large with plenty of places to sit, it was a rainy day and so everything looked a little drab but you can see that in the sunshine this beer garden and smoking area is the best feature of an otherwise unremarkable boozer. The dining area is seperated in the main from the bar area and the food is excellent. Mixed reviews on this one, if you're looking for good food and a nice view at a reasonable price then visit the Windsor, if you want a few beers and to have the craic with the locals, venture further into the town and find somewhere else! Large beer garden with great views but sadly it resembled more of a kids playground when i visited. The pint of butcombe(2.90) was ok but the girl who served it was very disinterested, all in all ok for a ale in the sunshine, 6.5/10 fat_beer_badger - 21 May 2010 14:42 |
Nice staff, nice food, nice beers and all at nice prices. That they continue to serve until 2:30 is another plus point as the extra half hour (compared to many places) means a late lunch needn't be hurried. On a nice day the views across the Mendips from the dining area and beer garden are fabulous. I'd recommend booking if you are coming to eat at a weekend, but during the week I've not had a problem getting a table. awkward42 - 29 May 2009 09:37 |
Probably the best pub in the area. Very good beer, all served in branded glasses. A good menu with well above average pub grub. Large beer garden which is nice in the summer, when you can hear the local jazz band practicing in the room above. Landlord is a bit of a prat but the staff are all lovely. anonymous - 23 Jul 2005 18:43 |
