Barry and Sue have done a fabulous job on the "Riser" (as it is known locally). The new decor, garden and frontage is wonderfully modern and clean without loosing any of the village local charm. The new owners are very friendly, as are their sons who often work behind the bar. Also the bar manager Owen is very good at keeping the ale in excellent condition. The Guinness is superb, the Harvey's is also excellent. They often have a guest ale on, and they have some decent wines top choose from too (a rare treat round our way!). The food has improved 1000% too. It is all now very nice, all cooked from scratch, not microwave dinners here. Just good honest home cooking. Highly recommended. If you are in Beeding, trust me, this is the best place to eat! TallJames - 7 Apr 2011 11:53 |
Really good welcome from the staff and new landlady. Arrived late as they were closing after lunch but they still made my wife & I a cup of coffee (with a very nice choc chip biscuit). The place has obviously had a recent revamp as the tenancy changed hands in summer 2010 - new decor, new attitude, new menu. The landlady was a local customer who saw the opportunity to do a better job - and she has. Very impressed - have only given 8/10 because we didn't eat and try the beer there, but will update when I go back. I suspect the score will only go up. And the post about them serving supermarket fare is so wrong - they strive to use locally sourced ingredients. ifindhouses - 28 Mar 2011 16:57 |
the last stop on my crawl and in my personal opinion(over three hundred pubs and counting) the best one on this crawl, even better than the norfolk arms which i scored a nine this is one of the top five friendliest pubs i have ever been in!! after about half an hour i felt like one of the locals and the food was fantastic i opted for a burger and chips after my long walk down from steyning and it was so good i tipped the chef and asked for the recipe not a normal burger real top ingredients. i dont know pubcrawlerone who wrote the review below and i can the only reason i can think of such a nasty review is personal(rival landlord maybe) which is a shame because other people may miss out on a FANTASTIC pub because of petty jelousy or sheer stupidity this is the first pub i have scored a 10 pubquichetaster - 26 Sep 2010 14:02 |
New management and now a decent village pub. Friendly and food good. The curry was good and spicy. Worth a return visit edandcorinne - 22 Jul 2010 23:44 |
Has an air of having seen better days, a little frayed around the edges, but a pleasant place to enjoy a drink. Floyd - 9 Aug 2007 18:21 |
