Visited at 1.15pm on a Thursday, the bar staff were pleasant and we ordered two glasses of wine and food. The food finally arrived 40 minutes later after two chase-ups - the young man on the bar apologised and offered us drinks on the house. He said the reason for the delay was that 'they all arrived at once just before you', the 'they' being 7 other diners. But once it came the food was superb and extremely good value, so based on our experience we can recommend this pub if you are not in a hurry! classic0904 - 30 Aug 2012 18:42 |
Visited mid-afternoon on a Friday. The first thing the girl behind the bar said was, "I hope you don't want any food because were closing in a minute" I asked if it was too late to get a drink and she replied that it was okay if we were quick. Can't remember the name of the ale but it tasted although the pint I was served had been rested in the pipes for few hours. Will not visit again. Went to the Royal Oak down the road. Completely different. kenbishop - 2 May 2012 06:22 |
Popped in for lunch on a Monday. It was pretty quiet but the food was lovely and hot, freshly prepared, big portions and tasty! The staff were friendly and, overall, it was a bargain for 2 adults and a child. I would definitely go back there if we were in the area again. They also had chess, draughts, scrabble and poker for evenings. Beerwise, they had a decent selection of real ales. BornAtheist - 18 Jul 2011 14:59 |
this pub is a true under rated gem. my wife and i went in with our two small children. the food was simple but perfectly done, the staff were great and very smily. there was a tv on the wall that the kids could watch whilst sitting on their own table whilst we ate our meal in peace. there was something on the menu for everyone. definatly would go again, and soon. nigel1111 - 25 Feb 2011 19:17 |
My Hopping Hare by Badger was excellent, this is a Hall and woodhouse pub after all. I had a plentiful prawn baguette with coleslaw and salad although I didn't try any thing else on the menu. Pleasant and helpful staff, the pub seems to be generally unaltered but now has a widescreen TV at one end of the bar which was tuned to the news when I visited. A variety of locals were present, this pub is worth visiting again! Feed - 9 Feb 2011 17:12 |
