Spot on place in a popular part of Bristol...will make a special pilgrimage from the North East caliwag - 23 Jul 2019 14:13 |
One of the few remaining REAL pubs in Clifton, if not the only one. Interior is slightly worn in a good way, and one or two of the characters at the bar are a little worn - but the cider keeps them going. This is a great little pub, hidden down a back street just off The Downs/Blackboy Hill. The cider is the main draw here but I noticed Tribute and lagers, and there a pool table. Other end is nicer with a real fire which is cosy on a cold night. Forget all the tarted up, sterile pubs in the area, this is how pubs were and still should be - and long may this continue. Prices are really good for Clifton - £3.60 for Thatchers Gold. The Sunday roasts are a big thing here, but I've not tried one yet. Get in here quick and enjoy the character(s) before some corporate brewery buys it and turns it into yet another identikit gastro pub. TheBeerHunterXXX - 3 Apr 2018 20:15 |
Great pub-full of characters-looks a bit rough to start with but you soon realise its just how pubs used to be before the chains came in and sanitised everything. hammers101 - 7 Aug 2010 11:33 |
This is a bit of a hidden oasis being tucked away in the side streets off of Blackboy Hill. Id venture that the majority of people walking up the hill just a few yards away dont even know its there. Its worth taking the small detour to get there though as its a decent little pub. Theres just one long bar, with the right hand end being dominated by a pool table. Theres also a plasma on the wall. Theres more seating down on the left, and some attractive exposed brickwork giving a suitably rustic feel to the place. Friendly barmaid. Beers on tap were London Pride, Butcombe and Doom Bar. Good choices of ciders with the unusual (these days) Taunton Traditional, Thatchers Dry, Thatchers Gold and Blackthorn. Blackthorn - 30 May 2010 23:49 |
Really like'd this pub , good old locals pub , staff and customers friendly , tucked out of the way slightly ,but the better for it . pool table .a sort of utopia vision of the 80's 3 real ales , fuller's butcombe doombar. beatles38 - 10 May 2009 13:00 |
