I've always avoided the Gladstone; its garish facade giving it the look of a dingy Scream pub.

But, having spent the first half of Man City Vs Chelsea in the Bear last weekend we thought we'd give the Gladstone a go for the second.

We're glad we did - although clearly a student haunt, the place has a nice feel and money has clearly been invested in developing the place.

The quality and choice of beer was far superior than the Bear and the food looked decent.

An oasis in the desert.

Amazingly positive changes since new management the place has changed remarkably. Lovely bar staff, the place has brightened up alot, and would defonatley recommend the Open Mic (mon) and Quiz (tue) to anyone. Lovely local pub :D

A decent pub that is often let down by complacent staff. My last three visits Ive had to ask the same bar girl to fill my pint properly. Good garden though and the food is usually pretty good too. On a good night, it can have a great atmos, on a quiet night, the bar staff seem more interested in chatting with their friends. Pretty pricey too.

Definitely my favourite pub on Lewes Road. Nice atmosphere, surprisingly large (only difficult to find a seat when their music festival Gladstonebury is on). Decent enough range of lagers, ales and ciders. Prices were okay-ish (3.30 for a Heineken, 3 for a pint of Stowford Press). In the middle of Studentland as well!

Went to The Gladstone on Saturday the 14th of March as I heard there was some reggae djs playing. I'd seen a flyer in the Dumb Waiter. I didn't expect what I saw, the place was jumping.
Full reggae style sound system, live vocals and insruments backed by a mixed bunch of very friendly djs and selectors and my feet vibrating with the bass.
I really didn't expect that from a 'quiet out of town' pub !
Apparently they are the called Dub in the Pub. Top name.
Had sunday lunch there too next day, free range chicken roast and check out the home made cheese cake !
Everyone is entitled to there comments and I'm entitled to say this - Go to the Gladstone, be served by lovely people, eat good food and have some Dub in The Pub...
