boltonbloke: "locals hogging the bar and not moving to allow you to get served" == The continentals find this bizarre aspect of English pub behaviour about the most inexplicable. All the more so, when those at the bar may well be the only few people in the pub, with not a single seat taken. There can't be that many people with piles, so there has to be some other explanation. Do they think that if they went away for ten minutes the staff would forget who they are? Is the fact, that everyone who comes into the pub must stand close to them, the nearest they get to physical intimacy? Are they afraid, that if they sat down they'd be unable to get up again? Is it simply a standing-up competition, to see who leaves first? Are they all crypto-republicans, who wouldn't want to be revealed if the National Anthem were to be played? That's the best I can do with logic, I'm afraid, and I'm still left wondering... eddybeer - 22 Dec 2013 15:45 |
Recently freezing cold and getting difficult to get served due to locals hogging the bar and not moving to allow you to get served. Maybe they are all hugging together in an effort to keep warm? boltonbloke - 22 Dec 2013 11:40 |
Rumours are the landlady is leaving after a row with the pub company over a flooded cellar during the Christmas period. I hope this is not the case, this lady has turned this pub around and it would be a tragedy if she is allowed to go. boltonbloke - 9 Feb 2013 01:37 |
After walking out of Barristers because we could not get served despite only half a dozen people being in the pub this was a refreshing change. Even though the pub was busy the friendly barman served us very quickly with some excellent Boondoggle which we enjoyed in a warn clean enviroment. boltonbloke - 7 Jan 2012 10:16 |
