This pub has a lovely village location and it's nice enough inside. But I'm surprised by its entry in the current Good Beer Guide. Butcombe Original & Fuller's London Pride were the only ales and there was no real cider. Pity. blue_scrumpy - 1 Feb 2018 21:38 |
I enjoyed my stay here. It's an attractive place by the river and quirky inside. A few too many loud opinionated people but maybe I was unlucky with that. Generally good service from friendly young women. Dinner was very good (excellent pork & mash) though breakfast less so. The Butcombe beers were fine if a little unexciting. Rooms are pretty cheap too. Psi - 9 Jul 2012 16:33 |
The interior is mostly pine and minimalist - not a style I like, tho' there was 1 room off the bar left in the old style with a couple of sofas, much more like it. I suspect food is very much the thing here. I got there just before closing at lunch time, so it was empty. Beer selection was fine. Lovely riverside garden. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit, but it was perfectly acceptable. MrBlue - 25 Aug 2011 16:19 |
The inside has gone upmarket - clean cream and pine at the expense of old-wordly atmosphere. Pleasant leather-sofa'd lounge area with fire. davystokes - 12 Oct 2010 18:15 |
Not very comfortable. Amateurish. Lacks atmosphere (and custom). The_Final_Arbiter - 3 Apr 2010 17:45 |
