I enjoyed a very nice lunch today with some work colleagues. Great menu, so give it a go. McMullens are a decent brewer, I opted for the Country, and found it to be in excellent condition! My first visit, may not be the last! Ade.The.Raider - 23 Nov 2016 21:45 |
As previous comments reflect, this pub is now in the McMullen chain. Still had on tap, Country, Cask and a seasonal. The beer was in good shape and the pub itself had changed little since I was last there and it was a Chef & Brewer. I really do like to spend a Summer afternoon at the Heron... the deck on the lake is excellent. Had soup of the day - cream of broccoli; could have used a bit more blending but it tasted good. A dish of olives also went down very well. Best of luck to the Staff - hope the change goes down well. I see no reason not to return and enjoy myself there on those warm Summer days. gypsygrrl - 7 Jul 2010 20:12 |
Date visited: New Years Eve Food: Excellent, tasty & good sized portions. Downside couldn't hear any music whilst we were eating. Service: Very good indeed. Friendly & helpful staff. New Years experience: Average. Disappointed in most of the music (although to be fair the older folk would no doubt have enjoyed it), but my main bug bare was the bad introduction to the New Year. Poorly executed count down (my watch said we were early!) & then no Lang Syne. Would it take make much to put a radio on, get the count down & Big Bens chimes? Even better would be to project Ben Big & the New Years fireworks going off onto a large screen. Because of this anti climax it felt like any other night & expensive one at that! lottie73 - 1 Jan 2010 11:31 |
This is my local, but I didn't visit regularly because the beer was not good - a range of 4 or 5 boring regional and national brews generally in poor condition. Also the food could be variable. However, now it is in McMullen's hands things seem to be looking up. Overtly, little has changed from the previous ownership (Chef & Brewer) and I believe it is still the same management team. I haven't eaten here recently, but a couple of pounds seem to have been knocked off the menu choices. The last couple of times I have visited there have been three beers on - Cask, Country and a seasonal, and they have generally been in good nick, although I would prefer to see AK. Although it is still food oriented you now feel less out of place occupying a a table and just drinking, and one time I was there with friends we were left drinking up until well after 11 without any pressure from staff to move on. This is a great place to sit outside in the summer, overlooking the Fleet Pond, hopefully the Heron will maintain its new higher standard. Phil_C - 27 Dec 2009 14:51 |
Popped in for a business lunch expecting not a lot and to my surprise found three beers from McMullen - Cask Ale, Country and AK, the latter was in decent condition. McMullen beers are rarely found in these parts. Service is good, unfortunately the food is remarkably average for the price. GazzaTheBeerMan - 7 Oct 2009 15:15 |
