2 recent visits have been repaid with friendly bar staff, the Tribute and Doom bar were in nice condition too. Nicer than its been for ages - good mix of customers but it feels expensive next to the nearby Wetherspoons I am afraid. Good to see it open and doing well though, shame about the poor old Gordon Arms closing for business. odbod - 25 Sep 2012 11:02 |
Visited this locals pub last weekend and what can i say the beer was warm and the real ale tasted like it should have been used to put on chips and not in a glass. Dont think i will ever grace the place again dogshead - 26 Apr 2012 06:14 |
Visited Saturday afternoon, 14 Jan 12 as part of a CAMRA pub crawl of Fareham Town centre. Seems a decent place and the barmaid and customers at the bar were pleasant when we arrived as a group. Pub seems to be old, and has some nice nooks and corners with pleasant fittings. Just what you'd expect from a "proper pub". Good atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon and definately has a "local pub" feel. A short walk from the main town centre and close to a lot of shops. They had Sharps Doom Bar and St Austell Tribute on sale this day, both of which seem popular in Fareham. I had a pint of Tribute and although I think I was unfortunate to get it slightly beyond its best, it was still quite drinkable and worthy of a 2 on the CAMRA Beerscoring scale (for those that aren't familiar with CAMRA scoring, this isn't a criticism of the overall quality of the ale they sell, just the single pint I had - "2" is an average score reflecting a "Competently kept drinkable pint but doesn't inspire in any way'). I didn't try the food. They sell a good range of normal pub food and at a decent price - 4.95 for things like pie and chips, fish and chips etc. They have a special of "Two for 8" which is very good value for South Hampshire. I will go back here to sample the beer on another day as I get the feel that I was just unfortunate that the beer had gone past its best - hey, that happens. If I'm there at a lunch time I'll try the food. There're a few pubs in close proximity in Fareham and the Clinkers is fairly close to a large Wetherspoon, but seems to be holding well against that competition. The Clinkers is a proper pub and worthy of a visit. sleepy_meerkat - 15 Jan 2012 14:16 |
Very pleased to see this pub re-opened and in great shape. Phil_Miles - 1 Sep 2009 13:45 |
Re-opened and under new management! At last a proper pub that has been saved from the bulldozers. The Clinkers Tavern has been a pub since approximately 1840 and has been given a new lease of life with clean lines, reduced clutter, a decent smoking area and good food! A true community led pub. csmith187 - 7 Jul 2009 20:00 |
