Visited the pub for the first time last week. Held the door open for 3 "gentlemen" who were clearly locals who were following me in and the landlady promptly went to serve them first despite being ahead of them. Summed up the pub as one for local people only. Beer OK but won't bother coming back. addlened - 2 Jul 2015 14:01 |
I've just read in the Argus that the new licencees who inherited the pub are going to throw the pub open to football fans on home match days. If this is true, dear old John will be turning in his grave. OK they want to make a fast buck, but what a kick in the teeth for John! nigmag - 21 Aug 2010 11:13 |
Good traditional pub. No fruit machines, no television, no jukebox. AND no football! If John, the landlord, wants to keep it a football-free zone, then all power to his elbow! Some of us have wider interests that we can share in a convivial setting. boofles - 31 Jul 2010 21:54 |
Better than i thought, popped in for a drink when passing last Friday 3 room pub with a 2 dinning areas and 1 bar area 3 different real ales on and cheap food friendly bar staff and locals where there was a mixture of older people and students. Will pop back nearer to when the ground is finish to see if there any change about letting football fans in. superseagulls - 26 May 2009 11:31 |
Great place to go for a quiet drink. Menu isn't really up to much if you want anything more than sandwiches. Very opinionated landlord, John - pick topics of conversation carefully! (Don't mention the Falmer Stadium!) No Harvey's (landlord dispute with the brewery) but a very good regular selection of other beers. l33tmike - 18 Feb 2008 20:09 |
