| Visited this pub on saturday 21st Jan before rugby. Just been refurbished and what a difference (for the better) very good real ale and great atmosphere. Glass collector was gorgeous! | Not one I've been to before, so I can�t comment on whether it�s changed for the better or worse, but it seemed pleasant enough on a recent visit. It looks as though it�s been spruced up a bit with a lick of paint round the place and some decent wooden flooring. Unfortunately the refurbishment hasn�t extended to the loos which are clearly some way past their best. Interesting feature in the beer garden (sorry, yard), namely a boat sat proudly in the middle, complete with a tall mast and water splashing off the bow! It�s fitted out with table and chairs and so if you�re feeling nautical you can sit in there and sup your pint. It bills itself outside as the �Rising Sun Bistro & Bar� and this is clearly evident as you walk through the door with the right hand bar being the bistro, with all the tables laid up for diners and drinkers presumably being unwelcome. The bar area is pleasant enough though. I particularly liked the large, upended beer barrels around the place which could be used to prop your drinks on. Beers were Abbot Ale, London Pride and Otter. | Last time I was in Bath was summer, and my wife and I had a very pleasant hour in this pub's great beer garden. We also had a very nice lunch, and were impressed by the friendly barman. Unfortunately, everything seems to have changed for the worse. Of course, it's not the time of the year for beer gardens, so we stayed in front bar. We were planning to eat lunch - but, although the pub only had a few customers, we were told we were "looking at a one and a half hour wait at least", so gave up on that one. The barmaid appeared to have spent rather too much time on the customer side of the bar, and very little beer seemed to be on. A very loud man was talking at the top of his voice about the confidential financial affairs of some local businesses. | Popped in here with my wife late afternoon yesterday. We had just left Old Green Tree, where my wife had been rather upset by group of locals talking at top of their voices about very deviant sexual practices. Lo and behold, as soon as we stepped through the door of the Rising Sun, we heard the same topic being discussed by a wholly other group: it seems that Bath may have become a hotbed of S & M and bondage! I think we'll stay in the confines of the Welsh Valleys in future! However, unlike the Old Green Tree, we were able to escape the filthy discussion by retreating to the back garden. This was a wonderful space, and must qualify as one of the most interesting pub gardens in the country.
