4 may seem a harsh rating but a few years ago this place would of been pushing a 9/10.

This place has been extended somewhat (and I hear that its to be extended more) but to what avail, it just means you have more space to stand/sit in as its rarely full anymore.

Very expensive, but with the amount you pay you for a drink you would expect premium entertainment when what you get is pretty average if your lucky and the schedule is very repetetive.

Every Thursday is the 60's All Stars, playing the same stuff week in week out, they have a DJ who obviously does not know how to turn his stuff down or really any idea what to play, he is 60 and they advertise this fact on their website, am sure 60 year old DJ's will draw in the crowds!

Karaoke happens 'sometimes' even when advertised its not guaranteed to be on.
You will see the same bands month on month and if you are lucky you will be in there when its busy (nowadays 20 people in a pub that holds 1500 easy is deemed busy!)

Pub really needs a clean and its become very 'clicky', it seems to be targetting the 18-24 crowd and the over 60's with not much for those inbetween.

On the plus side the staff remain friendly and the beer is of good quality. At the moment their is not really any serious comeptition although The Sporting Green 5 minutes up the road is improving rapidly. Once a contender does open or the green continues its form then I fear for The Lion.

The comments 'Well done to Joe he has taken command of this pub and made it his own' he nearly ruined this pub with who he let in and the crap entertainment he booked, thankfully he has moved on to pastures new but there is still a lot of work to be done to remove his legacy.

Thankfully the core of the punters stuck through and they are the life and soul of this pub and do make everyone feel welcome.

This pub is not what it used to be but it is still probably one of the, if not the best in the area.

This pub is bucking the trend for Enfield Boozers by actually getting better on a consistent basis. So many have shut down of late or seem content to plod along slowly deteriorating with little hope of a resurgence, but this place is going from strength to strength.
Hadn't been in for a fair while prior to Saturday just gone and it's been tarted up again since then in a very agreeable way. Still home to the nicest clientele in this neck of the woods, which is always a positive but now the bar staff have really raised their game too; friendly, quick, and painstakingly professional - I never had to wait very long for a drink though the place was very busy, sub-standard pints were poured away rather than being served to me and whilst I was annoyed that they have now stopped serving Beck's Vier, the barman at least took the time out to explain to me why and offer all the alternatives.
This pub has a healthy commitment to entertaining the punters as well and to this end had a very good covers band (The Remedy) playing on the stage and their performance was video relayed to all the flat screen tellies in the pub as well so that all could get a good view. They also have DJs and Karaoke in here at various times as well as showing all the sport.
Has now managed to find that elusive X-factor that makes me want to return more often and given its proximity to Monkfish Manors, I shall be popping in a fair bit more in future.
Very Very Good and now comfortably better than the previous holder of best pub in this part of town The Sporting Green which has been revamped slightly less successfully than this place.
