A 'rough and ready' type place. A bit strange because when i came in at 9 on a Saturday night they had one part of the pub in the dark with the speaker playing music and a strobe light and the other part of the pub was lit up with people chatting to each other. One ale was on- Banks's Bitter but i went for the Marston's Smooth as I had never seen it before, a decent enough drink and 2.50 so well priced. Barmaid seemed friendly enough, the bouncer outside was friendly and the locals seemed okay, not intimidating or anything. Wezzielad - 8 Jan 2017 22:38 |
i recently visited this pub briefly as i was catching a connecting train and i was pleasantly surprised with the choice of beers and REAL ALES.the atmosphere was pleasant and i must say i was made to feel comfortable by the other people at the bar.the pub itself was clean and had nice features such as the brass hand pumps serving the cask ales ------they shone.i nearly missed my connection as i was feeling quite at home here but sadly ended the visit and my pint of buzz , i would certainly call here again ,hopefully for longer. andyndaz - 7 Jul 2011 07:33 |
Great traditional pub, recently taken over by new management, so it's now nice and clean, also they have installed traditional beers and have 2 guest ales every month. Annie and Dee are very welcoming, and have entertainment on every week-end, also, they have rooms to rent upstairs which is very conveniant when you've had a few too many!! dirrie29 - 15 Jun 2011 16:22 |
A nice traditional pub handy for the station, but the lack of any real ale is regrettable. Heatonian - 2 Aug 2009 16:32 |
Has an interesting colour sheme - green and yellow. Never liked that blend of colours, reminds me of my old junior school, Bromford, who used the same on their tie. The inside seemed clean enough to me, with mock tudor style beams and leather 'chesterfield' styled seating. No real ale, but we knew that they had a MILD from previous experience. The Burton Bridge MILD had been replaced by a Banks's Dark MILD tap - one of my favourites, however, when the landlady poured the beer, she bizarrely put a little Guiness in each one first and although ok, it didnt taste like Banks's Dark to me - but then with a bit of tar in it, why should it? Always visit though, and any answers to the above, please drop me an email Archivist - 24 May 2009 11:22 |
