Drove past and went in for dinner mid-week. It was quite quiet but the owners were very friendly and welcoming. Dinner was a full portion of hearty home cooked food and not the pretentious arty type you get pubs trying to pull off these days. It was nice to try some local brew for a change too. They even turned the cricket on for us! Will definitely go back to try the Sunday Roast. anon247 - 21 Aug 2009 11:33 |
Have been here for sunday lunch about a year ago, and was happy enough with what we had then, roast chicken was HALF a chicken served with all the usual. This time we sat in the extension, couldn't help but notice the constant buzz of the microwave from the kitchen(why would anyone need to use a microwave for a 'homecooked' sunday roast???? The portion of meat was no where near as generous as last time(previous tenants) the veg was soft and watery, and gravy was like brown dish water. The spuds and yorkshire were ok. There are other pubs in the area doing a much better version at a better deal too, and they are not showing football while you are trying to eat a roast dinner either!! People should be warned of this before they turn up!! 147fred - 14 Feb 2009 17:09 |
Shame really, so much potential, but what you get is a really pretentious pub, with little or no atmosphere. Have to agree with previous entry re food. You really do expect home cooking from an establishment like this. We as a party, were so dissappointed. valtojos - 14 Aug 2008 02:36 |
I am trying to think of an adjective which best describes this pub without going over the top, tempted as I am. Mediocre is about best I can do. We arrived in a big family group aged range 10 months to mid sixties. The table was cobbled together but the help from staff minimal. It is one of those 'come up and order everything at the bar' places. You order and we will come and dump it infront of you if you are lucky. If we had wanted to go to the local Wetherspoons we would undoubtedly have got a much better deal and unbelievably we would probably have got better food! When I queried my tiny portion of prepacked 'roast pork' - they did manage to remove it from the boil in the bag container - I was told that if it was not enough for me I would have to go back up to bar and order more. Politeness is not my strong suit when I get addressed in this manner so it was a real struggle to point to the next door plate which had about four times more meat on it than mine without uttering even a veiled threat! They then relented and produced another 'boil in the bag' portion. The Greene King IPA which they are obliged to serve has got to take the prize for the dullest drink calling itself draft beer, to sum up drive at least 20 miles out of your way to avoid this establishment - to call it a pub would be an insult to other hostleries that must undoubtedly be doing a better job than this one! PS, the children's slide was popular with the 3 year old in our group! cookian - 2 Jun 2008 14:56 |
