A jolly nice pub. Nicely furbished bar, with big open fire, and restaurant area. Doom Bar in good order, Landlord and Forty-Niner also available. Food good too, (Liver and bacon and banoffee pie). AndrewW - 7 Nov 2012 18:09 |
'not' a wow....sorry.... pkrp - 18 Jul 2012 20:13 |
A welcome stop-off during a hefty rainstorm a few weekends back. The beer was OK, just that. Alton's beers are normally lovely, this one was passable. I preferred the St Bernard dog propping up the bar with his/her owners, to be honest. The pub is in a lucrative spot, right near footpaths etc so a guest beer/bottled beer might put this place back on the 'ale trail'. Otherwise, pleasant enough, just now a 'wow'. pkrp - 18 Jul 2012 20:12 |
Getting a really good reputation as a top class eatery and decent pub. I can vouch that both is true! Took a ride over on a lovely Sunday afternoon. They had Alton Pride, Ringwood 49er and Doom Bar on tap. Tried the Pride and 49er - both in excellent condition; the Pride was the best I've had. Plenty of charachter and a really good kids play area (fenced in, big trampoline, wooden play house. Loads of space - enough to kick a ball round in! Lots of people enjoying the sunshine (some were even sunbathing!) Plenty of outside seating. Can also imagine this pub being really cosy in the winter as its a 'proper' pub. Shame I'm about 4 miles away so can make it my local. pdub - 12 Apr 2011 19:30 |
Probably one of the best, if not the best country pub ive been to. I lovely bustled atmosphere, smiling staff, very helpful and my pint of hobgoblin was beautiful, my partner in crime had the Fortininer which was equally pleasant. The food was the icing on the cake of our visit. We tried the house burger which claims to be Britains best burger (and there probably not far wrong). We also tried the ale pie, it was succulent, delicious and clearly homemade. Both food & drink is equally good value for money, they seem to have a great deal lunchtimes which made our food extremely cheap. A must visit venue bestpubsearch - 25 Feb 2010 07:42 |
