Although I have eaten here often before, this time I was served fish and chips and there waqs something wring with the fish. My wife, also having orderd fish & chips, found hers was undercooked and mine seemed to be as well. We asked for the fish to be cooked a bit more, which resulted in the chef storming up to our table to tell me I there was nothing wrong with the food, and he put my plate (which he brought back out unchanged back on the table. I had another go at the fish but it really was horribly undercooked. We mentioned this to the landlord when we left who told me I was wrong and that since they sold lots of fish mine must have been perfect. I did not dare make a fuss since I feared the chef coming at me with a meat cleaver, but I will never EVER return here. BadlyTreated - 10 Oct 2013 21:56 |
Sad to report the landlord is rude, prices are pretty ridiculous (even for Cambs), beer was average and the experience if you dont actually order food the second you walk in the door is dismissive. Heaven forbid if you might actually like to check the menu while having a drink and not order immediately. Will never darken their doors again. What a disappointment. melton69 - 3 Oct 2012 21:56 |
A delightful exterior and the fact that this pub had reopened after an extended period of closure tempted us to go for a drink on a Saturday evening. From the start it proved to be a let-down. A pint of Adnams bitter and a SMALL glass of white wine coming to 7.85 led me to query whether I had been over-charged, or perhaps mistakenly charged for a large glass of wine. Although I had quietly asked the guy who had served me, two members of staff got involved and embarrassed me in front of other customers. As there were no available seats in the bar area and were quite tired, I asked a member of staff if we could sit at a small table roughly set for food and were told that we could not, yet two much younger people who appeared to be locals sat there with pints and no food from shortly afterwards until we left. We found the Black Horse unwelcoming and overpriced, and would recommend those other than locals to give it a wide berth. robric - 27 Aug 2011 22:58 |
I was on a run using trails from Bar Hill to the Cavendish Labs and had hoped to stop at the Black Horse for a 1/3-of-the-way pint. Unfortunately, it is seeking a new tenant. Looks like a great location, and the right publican should be able to make a go (next nearest are the prefabricated Fox in Bar Hill and the snooty gastro monstrosity Three Horseshoes in Maddingley). 1pumplane - 16 May 2009 10:55 |
