Run down, back street potteries boozer. In it's hayday, when the pot banks were flourishing, this place hummed. It used to have a reasonable flow of minor club-circuit celebs, doing "turns" belting out "Yellow River" in the "club-style". Now, as the whole area looks like Stalingrad, due to an EU scheme to 'regenerate' the area. Other boozers in the area, most notably the "Highland Laddie", have closed. Not sure how long this one will survive. I do recall one funny incident from a while back. Drinking in the bar, with my wife, one of the locals came over to us and asked us the time. We replied that it was "ten-to-nine". He thanked us, and said, conspiratoraly, "The vikings will be in at 9". We looked at him oddly, thinking that enebriation issues were coming to the surface. At 9pm, the pub door was flung open and in walked a load of vikings. The local "Valhallah" renactment society used the scout hut opposite for their activities, and rounded off a pleasant evening of raping and pillaging with a half of lager shandy. anonymous - 9 Sep 2010 09:42 |
