Sadly not as good a pub as it used to be. The cost of a glass of wine at £6.95 is very excessive, and the beer pipes need a good clean. The food is served on over sized plates to try and make it look better than it is. Food is very ordinary, nothing special. The tables are all sticky where the coating is old. you place anything hot on the table and after a few minutes it is stuck to the table. The loos are smelly and need a good clean and some fragrance introduced to kill the drain smell. Last visited this place 2 years ago, after this will not be visiting again.

The Old Chequers has just changed hands and as a local resident I am thrilled. For far too long the pub has served substandard food and more recently no bar area so you didn't feel you could just go for a drink, or have a drink in the bar before dinner.
They now have Peroni on the pumps and a selection of more interesting ciders, standards of cleanliness have also improved.
We just had starters last night rather than a full meal, but can already note a change for the better. This pub seems likely to challenge local rivals of The Red Lion at Water End, and in time perhaps even the Alford Arms, which in the past was unthinkable.

Sadly Christine and Ron have left.
The pub is now a restaurant with a bar, and has lost all its' charm and has a very strained atmosphere.
The food is still first class, I am very pleased to report.
The beer has changed. Doom Bar and Spitfire are now on the pumps. Sadly, not as well kept as the beer used to be, but on the bright side the GK IPA has gone.
I am going to have to lower my rating from 9 to 6

Has had some alterations done, the bar is now on the left as you walk in through the door, they have done some work on the garden by putting some wooden furniture (chairs and tables) and small stones on the floor but sadly they have let the rest of the that has pub tables on, become a bit untidy and a little over grown, during the summer it was quite pretty. Real ale is Adnams Broadside and GK Abbott Ale. Still a good pub but good do with some improvements i.e. sorting the garden area out, which hope they do soon.
