My parner and I used the Caravan Club Certificated site at the rear of the Black Swan for the August Bank Holiday weekend. It was a lovely weekend, sunny and warm, and we made good use of the pub in the evening. The Adnams is very well kept and the staff were pleasant and friendly. We ate in the restaurant on Sunday evening and were impressed again by the efficient staff. Tony, the landlord, entertained us by catching two large hornets that had somehow blundered into the restaurant! The menu is very unusual, with imapla, crocodile, kangaroo and other exotic meats on offer. We wimped out and went for fish, which was perfectly cooked. In all, a lovely pub, just off the beaten track, perfect for caravanners - and for those who like to do a spot of fishing, there is a little river that runs along the back of the campsite, teeming with roach, gudgeon and tench. A great weekend! Goatface1959 - 1 Sep 2009 10:55 |
Large pub on the river next to the bridge across the Waveney. Various drinking areas, including a pool room, a bar and a restaurant. Four well-kept local ales on offer: Green Jack - Orange Wheat, Wolf - Golden Jackel, Adnams - Best, GK - St Edmunds. Pub was busy, with lots of people dining. The menu was fairly exotic (although on the expensive side) and included Ostrich, Impala, Crocodile and Kangaroo. Shall be returning to sample some rare dishes at some stage. Not a child friendly pub at all. Our children were not allowed to 'play' even in the garden. Food was very typical pub grub, but very plain. My salad consisted mostly of lettuce. It's a real shame because the setting so close to the river was beautiful and the children had a lovely paddle there but next time we'll skip the pub and take a picnic to eat it by the river on the picnic tables there. upsy - 12 May 2008 11:14 |
A very quiet, red brick pub tucked away off the A143. A mixture of oak pannels and armchairs tradition (very welcoming) and a naff modern area of the pub with pool tables. Well kept Adnams and Woodforde's Wherry on tap. The Black Swan boasts a seriously attractive blond girl pulling the pints. The pub was quiet at lunchtime with a few local farmers and land agents talking shop. Worth a second visit. Lt_George - 6 Jan 2007 17:57 |
Slightly off the beaten track as they've moved the roads but thoroughly good time had -once we found it. James_Henry - 12 Jul 2006 11:38 |
