The convenience, location, and the building itself are excellent. The beer is of indifferent quality however, and on our recent visit the food was both highly priced and poorly cooked. biggles221 - 14 Mar 2012 06:51 |
Great pub that in Summer especially is a really good place for a pint as the sun goes down over the Estuary. The beer is always good and is generally a selection of Adnams well known and less-well known bitters plus usual lagers and the food is solid pub food, I always have fish and chips and have not been disappointed yet. Staff are great and there's a good mix of locals and drop-ins. Due to it's position between Walberswick and Southwold it also makes a good fall-back if you can't get in to a pub there for lunch. Well worth a visit. oldjg1 - 30 Jun 2011 02:23 |
Recently stayed for 2 nights with my wife and dogs. The beer was very well kept, the food was very tasty and reasonably priced and staff very friendly. Great location for a short stay or a passing visit; there's a very nice river walk from the car park behind the pub to Walberswick. They've now got a pool table too; although there isn't really enough room to play easily! TEL3 - 24 Sep 2010 21:07 |
I haven't been (or stayed) here for about a year and feel the food has deteriorated ; it was ok (but not very good, as before). The beers were well kept as usual. There seemed to be some 'friction' amongst the staff too, although they were very friendly and helpful to me! I hope they pull things around because this is still a good pub but not quite as good as previously. TEL3 - 23 Sep 2009 20:44 |
I had a meal here over the Bank Holiday Weekend at the end of August 2009. I told the staff I would review the pub at the end of my meal (in a fit of pique) so here is the review. On reflection, the service was friendly and the food was good-ish (more on that in a moment) but what got my goat was the length of time it took to get served after ordering, of the order of 45 mins and that was in the restaurant section. I'm actually surprised to see such a low average rating from other reviewers - my rating in fact nudged the average up a little. I had chicken curry, and to my surprise got a whole piece of chicken over rice, rather than pieces in a sauce. The chicken was somewhat burnt along one edge (enough to leave that edge) but good quality - hastily prepared? Ample quantities of rice, but very little sauce; what sauce there was was left you wanting more, it was good. Had a very good glass of Adnams-sponsored red wine. I wanted pudding but by that stage didn't really have time. I ordered the choc ice cream anyway - very good, with bits of chocolate throughout, but just managed to eat about half when the party I was with had to leave. Ah well. If the service had been prompt, it would have been a great meal out, but as it was I got a little narked. pubratertoo - 5 Sep 2009 21:17 |
