Called in yesterday (Sunday22nd Sept) whislt on a clasic car tour. Initially we were disapponted as the pub appeared to be shut (it was mid afternoon). However after a minute or tow we were welcomed in and spent a very enoyable hour in the company of Debbie and Ron (and a few others. An interesting pub, with great beer and lots of atmoshrere. Well worth a visie MartynG - 23 Sep 2013 13:25 |
Had a couple of meals at this place recently and both were of an excellent standard. Didn't try the ales but they certainly looked in good condition when served to other customers. Was impressed to find four ales including a mild on handpump in such a rural location. Service was generally excellent (save for a rather over-friendly barman on the second occasion - though this wouldn't have been a problem if he'd had a few more customers to be dealing with - midweek in December should explain it) and none of us could have any major complaints. Our Motorcycle club has had two Christmas lunches and two camping weekends(about to have a third) at this marvellous pub. The hosts, Ron and Debbie couldn't do enough for us. Food & drink is A1 and the B&B units in the grounds are better appointed than most hotels. Go there, you'll like it! motorcyclist - 25 Jun 2009 23:05 |
I have to say that I am biased here as the Chequers is one of my regulars. Run by Ron & Deb. for a few years now, when they first arrived Ron went on record as saying that he intended to have a Pub that did food as opposed to a former Pub now Resturant that served beer, He has been true to his word, the beer is always excellent, three or four real ales always available. Mild always available (On draught), not bad for a country pub eh? The food is great and gets better and better from their young team in the kitchen, good fresh food with sensible portions. Large patio and a garden at the rear. Hops_n_Malt - 26 Feb 2007 16:28 |
