Popped in here on spec after finding the Rose & Olive Branch surprisingly closed and up for sale. Very impressed by the warm welcome, the vast range of food and how delicious it tasted, and their own beer called "Rose & Crown" available in addition to TT Landlord. All very satisfactory, but my only concern is that most of the pub comprises tables laid up for formal dining behind a sign saying wait here to be seated; although they claim to welcome 'walk-ins' they don't have many tables suitable for such. In here last Saturday about 1.30pm and quite busy mostly for diners. A few spare tables but not many and the foods not cheap either. I stuck with the beer. They have 7 hand pumps 4 to the right as you go in with 3 others round the other side to the left. Only three different ales on:- Tim Taylors Landlord. Adnams Southwold Bitter (£3.85 a pint) & Sharpe Doom Bar (£3.80 a pint) I tried a pint each of the Adnams and the Sharps and they were OK but a bit too cold. bjbrummiejohn - 20 May 2013 08:07 |
Great pub with attentive staff good range of beer and food and very large garden with kids play area. Owned by the same group (Barrons inns) as the Cricketers in Horsell and the Star at Malden Russett 5stardrunk - 18 Sep 2010 20:52 |
Went here with my parents for an evening meal recently. Extremely good food - steak was on a par with 80 a head restaurants in the city. Service was good and the seats comfy. I'll definitely be back to this little gem of a pub. MarwoodChap - 16 Sep 2010 13:32 |
Stopped here for lunch today with a group of other walkers and was very impressed with the friendly efficient service, so much so that I am taking the effort to give some postive feed back here. It is part of a small chain I believe (clue: Brake Bros. catering lorry was delivering food as we left), but despite that it served real ales in top condition, and the food and service was not the typical chain stereotype. For a first visit opinion, I'd certainly return for more. mim - 17 Jun 2009 21:55 |
