| Went to this pub three times over a period of ten days. The only downside is that there are only three ales on offer, although there are bottled beers available (did not check if they were cask conditioned). Other than that I loved the pub! I sampled local brews from the local Cuillin Brewery, all good, as well as Trooper (Iron Maiden/Marston's). The food available is really good, had prawns (more like mini lobsters), venison burger, haggis in filo pastry and venison casserole. All very good. nonecker - 28 Sep 2015 21:15 |
| Three or four real ales on offer from the Skye and Cuillin breweries, but the quality varies hugely. Some were cloudy, luke warm and barely drinkable on a warm July day, but the following day a new beer had been put on which was top notch. So my advice would be to ask for tasters. The customers are an interesting mix of holidaying couples and families, plus a significant sprinkling of tough mountaineering types. There is a bunk house next door, as well as the hotel accommodation itself, so you can get a sudden rush of hungry, thirsty and noisy groups who tend to swamp the place. The rather basic furnishings reflect this section of the customer base. The (mostly young) staff are friendly and work hard, but there appears to be no-one in charge and they lack support, so things can be chaotic at times. Would you believe that they ran out of tomatoes and mushrooms for breakfast one day? That aside, the food was OK, but not as brilliant as other comments suggest. However, some dishes were good and they do try to vary the menu depending on the day's fish catch. The hotel room was good and had a lovely view across the loch. | This place is an absolute gem for Skye. Remote in superb scenery, a good selection of real ales and good food. It's the sort of place i can imagine some good highland music taking place much to the delight of locals and tourists. | Recently happend upon this pub whilst staying on Skye, and then returned another 2 times the food was so good! The beer and location weren't bad either! The food though was very very good, tasty, fresh, well cooked and despite being really busy was served in a very timely fashion! Can thoroughly recommend it! wiiwidow - 30 Aug 2009 18:33 |
| Beer - Kept and served very well. Food - Very good. Cooked fresh and served efficiently. Staff - Attentive and very friendly. Clientele - Locals, climbers and walkers - all very friendly and sociable. Music - Live, loud and local. General atmosphere - Fabulous. The B & B rooms are very comfortable, with views over the loch. Breakfast can be a rather haphazard affair, all dependant on how early in the morning the staff went to bed. They let dogs in too. Look out for Louie, the pool playing Collie.
