Lovely setting. Lovely dining room. Have been twice without a booking. Its always a big deal to squeeze you in even though the dining room remained half empty on both occasions. Well overpriced for the area. On a par with London restaurants for prices. Service pleasant but some staff training required. The guy when asked if a particular wine was dry said he had no idea.

Maybe the owners need a wake up call and get a more hands on approach

This pub has a grate location and we have been there many times over recent years....BUT... it had been a while...and it will be a longer while until we eat there again. There is nothing wrong with the food. It is average. There is nothing wrong with the service it is average. The only thing above avergage is whot you pay!

a simple meal of roebuck burger salad and chips - what could go wrong? nothing if you like solid undercooked chips and meagre portions. the salad was nice though. my party of 5 all left most of their chips, which was simply unheard of.
value for money? not really. there are so many better restaurants that offer good value meals.
quality of food? chips...awful, burger OK but garnished with melted cheese that with one serving retained it's rind
atmosphere/location? high on the common, it's difficult to fault
going there again? shouldn't think so

Well located pub overlooking Minchinhampton Common and the valley below. The interior has been modernised but not ruined. There are several separate drinking areas and a large restaurant to the rear. Doom Bar, Abbot Ale and Butcombe Bitter were the 3 real ales. Moles Black Rat and Stowford Press were the ciders. Significantly better than the current 4.0/10 rating implies.

We had a meal here last night and felt it had really gone downhill since our last visit before christmas. Although they have a 2 for one deal on with vouchers on main courses in the week the food was very expensive for what it was - over 9 for a plate of spinach and ricotta tortellini that had no garnish hardly any sauce and seemed to be identical to that you can buy at a supermarket - definatel not home made. The Eton mess wasn't Eton mess at all - peculiar tubes of meringue with a yoghurt like sauce. We were quite sad as we like the atmosphere in this place . Now it isn't really a pub and it certainly isn't a good restaurant.
