| Ive seen some great fights in the Wild Man, and the good thing is you can just hide in the corner and watch. They are usually to far gone to notice anything by that point. | Not a terrible pub at least not been turned into a brass and polished wood Wetherspoons monstrosity. The place is called the Wildman because it used to be a lunatic assylum. Well if you go in most nights you'll see not a lot has changed from those days in fact a reasonable prtion of their clientele look like they belong in an assylum. Often just seems on the periphery of being out of control but to be fair have never seen real problems their you just kind off expect it. No it's not the chavvy brigade, it's like the entire clientele could be Big Issue sellers, the kind of I'm too werid for my own good crowd. | As far as city pubs in Norwich goes, this one is by far the best!! yes, to the person who just pops in for a quick drink for the first time it might seem a little worn in places and could do with having a little refurb. But then again maybe not, as the way the pub is just gives it more character. You won't find many proper boozers left in the city centre anymore and as far as I can see, this is the only one left as all the others have pretty much been turned into some kind of gastro/winebar ugliness. This a pub where you can find people from all walks of life enjoying a drink in the same pub, from the bankers from natwest across the street to the big issue seller, from punks to emos to you general average public, everyone is welcome in this pub...apart from maybe chavs and general prince of wales scum who you don't see many of in this place. The beer is resonably priced and well kept, and since they now have alot of lagers on draft, a hoegarden and leffe lover like myself tend to frequent this pub more and more. And last but not least The jukebox is by far the best in the city and how can you complain when on a monday you can get a pint for �1.50!? squint - 28 Mar 2007 23:53 |
| I visit Norwich quite regularly and always make a point of calling in at this pub. The location is charming (on a cobbled street) and the history of the pub all add to its attraction. The reason I keep returning is because of the relaxed atmosphere and the feeling of being able to settle in and take your time.
