A great pub, with many a glorious Wednesday night spent there over the last 5 years - but currently (and sadly) shut. Hummers - 30 May 2012 06:32 |
Food: The food is excellent. Large portions and cooked perfectly. Service: The service on the whole is good. They are all mainly young girls, a bit inexperienced but willing. HOWEVER: The landlady, Ginny I believe, is in the wrong business! She brings a whole new meaning to the word Hospitality and it differs from what the rest of the English speaking people would recognise. We asked for a table and were told, with a heavy sigh, to Wait there, I'll see. She was rude, ignorant and unhelpful, she just sat on the stool drinking wine whilst her bar staff were run ragged. It spoilt the whole meal for us and we will not be returning for this reason. Atmosphere: Frosty, felt uncomfortable. This is a shame as it is a lovely country pub and we feel that under different management could be a huge success as are the other country pubs in Denmead. This one has it all, great food at a reasonable price, a free house, lovely views. Shame about the Landlady. Value: Great value. Let it be known if she leaves, the place will be packed Have rated it only a 5 but it could easily be 10 Allisfair - 21 Apr 2011 10:02 |
I don't know about sparklers and foghorns but if you want good, reasonably priced beer in Denmead, this is the best pub to visit. I have found the landlord and landlady consistently accomodating and friendly as are the staff which is a welcome change to other pubs in the area. I should add that we have visited the pub at least once a month for the last 2 years and have never found it any different. Hummers - 6 Sep 2009 09:24 |
Nice pub for sure, best and worst points are the customers, 99% of them are a good bunch who I'll happily spend time with but then every now and then you get the odd tosser who comes in and bitches about the sparklers. Hey but as Cicero would say 'de gustibus non est disputandam' and all that... Thankfully the fact that the staff aren't deferential wretches but are instead human beings with a bit of character seems to scare off the real morons. By the way, the pints look great. So the real ale in here has sparklers on each pump. This is not normally a problem, because any barman worth his salt will remove the pesky things when asked. Not here. Not even when I repeated the request when he started to pull the pint. Not even halfway through when I told him to stop. "I can make it look nice," said the barman. Look nice? How about tasting nice? How about having a good texture when you drink it? Customer service like this deserves to be avoided, and it will be. mhanley - 24 Mar 2009 14:57 |
