Standard Charles Wells pub, not too big, corporate interior. Only two ales on - Bombardier and Red Robin. The red Robin was surprisingly drinkable. Has plenty of screens for watching sports - inc one over the urinals in the gents. Snarling_Mallard - 18 Dec 2019 00:57 |
This is a blokes' pub, with little evidence of women except for the bar staff. It's also got a pronounced Irish element, so most of the drinkers were necking Guinness, lager or Magners. Lots of TVs showing sport, including a couple of screens in the urinals. The sound was too high and discouraged conversation. Of the 3 handpumps, the Bombardier was off, the Eagle IPA was horrible, and the Charles Wells Summer Golden ale was good. To her credit, the barmaid apologised for the vinegary stench of the Eagle and swapped it for the Summer Golden ale without demur. Not too bad, but I'd rather drink at one of the other 3 pubs within a stone's throw (Kitchener, Railway Bell and the delightful and quirky backstreet Builders Arms. Number11 - 20 Sep 2014 22:17 |
Was in here again last night The staff & other customers seemed friendly enough with good service I tried a few pints of Bombardier which was in good form. Looking around most customers were drinking Lager Cider or Guinness at the time but there was also Eagle on tap it seems to be a good sports type Pub with two large screens at front bar and a few others around the pub there is even screens complete with sound in the toilets above the urinals so you don't miss a goal whist having a wee. This is a large L shaped Pub at front with a large extension area at back where there were a group of customers eating. There is also a good menu of traditional Pub Grub if you peckish. All in all its a good traditional drinkers pub for a few pints playing darts or watching the football. Well worth popping in when passing. (The review below was posted by Akapub in error was meant for the spoons and I must say I agree with his comments its a dire place this is a much better drinkers pub.) Alesonly - 16 Nov 2013 11:29 |
Apologies all my review here, was meant for the Railway Bell Not the Railway Tavern. Akapub - 29 Sep 2013 12:54 |
Go here at your peril. The new guvnor is a nutter. A face as long as a fiddle. She barrs people at the drop of a hat. Shes been heard to tell customers off for laughing too loud . I was in there Friday just gone and it was a nightmare, only 2 or 3 ales on out of the 8 pumps. Most of them seem to be brewed by the famous brewery' available soon,! It obvious since the refurb all they are interested in is folk sitting eating their microwave meals. Drinkers are definately second class citizens here. Why the guvnor works in the hospitality industry beggars belief. She obviously hates having to desl with the general public. Maybe she should reconsider her career options. Maybe mortuary attendant or tax inspector would be more fun for her! Akapub - 29 Sep 2013 12:48 |
