| Small pub in centre of pretty though somewhat inaccessible village south of Dartmoor. Has an excellent Sunday lunch of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with generous helpings of veg, good pint of 'Jail' bitter. Staff very friendly, meal was pricey but worth it. | Recently I went to have a meal in this pub [ The Monks Retreat Inn] I agree, it was a fantastic meal - went with my friends from AUSTRALIA, and I will definitely call again for further meals - what a gem of a place, great service with a smile, great ale- clean, star quality. | Called here whilst on holiday one lunchtime in June. My husband and I were the only customers at the time (terrible weather). We had a wonderful meal - Steak with a mushroom and wine sauce - originally containing garlic but was cooked specially for us omitting this ingredient! It was delicious - will certainly visit again.
