| Three meals on our visit. Skate was excellent with generous portion, meat pie good with pheasant rather tasteless. Starters were good. The quality of food and extensive menu would have definitely brought us back. Very disppointing that the the wine was extemely poor quality, @ �14.90 a bottle we felt 'ripped off'. Beers were good. | well almost a year since my last visit and not much change. Cobwebs still lurking on high. The service was dire slow and 2 of the young girls didn't seem to want to be there,if you get what i mean. We had to deliver our order to the bar nafter giving up waiting for the waitress.we'd already waioted 10mins for the menu etc. we all opted for the 2x course for �7.95. Roast turkey came without it's stuffing yet appeared on other meals served at other tables, also the roast pots on our had seen the better side of fresh i.e frazzled.the other tables fresh. the veg was hard and the carrots were of all different thicknesses (WRONG).The plates were stone cold also.Staff enthusiasm and service were slower and duller than silver citizens that adorned the place. | Pleasant village pub just a minute or so's drive from the A38. There's only a fairly small bar area with the majority of the pub being laid up for dining. Arriving late on a Monday night this was all in darkness, so clearly not intended for drinkers. There's a good special's board if you're after food. The bar area is decent enough and there's a seperate snug with some sofa's. Beer choices were Newman's Wolvers ale, Brains SA and Butcombe. | popped into this pub,after seeing an advert in one of the local papers,Liked the beer,and the food wasn,t shall we say ,"yes i,ll come back".but above average,what put me off was the stream of smokers,nipping through the dining area,to the outside,for a puff..the wafting of stale ciggarette hitting the nostrils as they returned put myself of the meal,so for me that was a big let down.Not to mention the draft from the door,as people used this as an entrance/exit also. james55westhead - 31 Mar 2009 16:10 |
