| Six years on I thought I'd see if anything has changed. Before going to the bar I picked up a drinks menu. Under 'Craft Ale' it went on to say; "Fantastic range of permanent and guest beers" "Our own beers GK IPA and Abbot Ale" "Guest beers well known favourites and locally brewed beer" At last, a pub willing to change their priority towards real ale and not food. I approached the bar to see four hand pumps. Hand pump one, no pump clip - no beer. Pump two - ditto, pump three - ditto, pump four GK Abbot and that is it, only one beer. No guest beers, no well known favourites and no locally brewed beer. Trade descriptions spring to mind. Having already ordered food (before learning of the ale situation) I felt obliged to stay so had a pint of Abbot. It wasn't in the greatest condition - it was either first out the pipes that day or nearing the end of barrel. Not much point taking it back and changing it to.....what? | Owned by the Old English Inns chain and typically first priority food, beer second. Food choice, price and taste all average. Uninspiring beer choice from Greedy King, Abbott, IPA and Old Golden Hen (the best of a bad bunch). Ordered drinks at our table. No sign of them after 15 minutes so I collected them myself from the bar. When the food arrived I ordered another beer. Again the waitress failed to deliver so another trip to the bar was needed. | Recently reopened after a supposed 'extensive' refurbishment although I could not see a great deal of difference when I went in. Food choice was average even though it was a 'new menu'. Beer quality indifferent. Staff poor, our waitress forgot to bring us the water and sauces that we requested but instead spent her time chatting to the barman and steadfastly ignoring customers around her needing service. Overall - couldn't really notice any difference following the refurbishment, slow and poor service does not do this pub any favours as well as an uncomfortable atmosphere. manx_888 - 26 Nov 2012 11:20 |
| To be fair, this pub has always been pulled about a bit, even in the days when it was a half decent pub. It is now reduced to selling chain pub food within a corporate job dark wood mock homely interior to mainly families and screaming babies. However, I must say it does seem to do a good trade so whilst I would never recommend it as nice place to have a pint, it may be just the place for a cheap meal with family and kids in tow. zoomy - 14 Apr 2010 00:15 |
| We travel from edgware to this pub as we have always found the food very nice we try different items on the menu - we take the family - the sizzlers are nice we have the steak and mixed grill, we also like th gammon egg and chips. The staff are very friendly and good. Last Sunday 6.9.09, we thought we would treat the family to a sunday roast as we had never had one in there before. there was a small lady who wore glasses serving it. she didn't speak a lot of english. The carrots, potatoes and rest of veg were all dried up. We told her that we were not happy with her display of food and she went out the back and came out with a kettle of boiling water and tipped it over the carrots, potatoes, cauliflower etc, the were floating in hot water ugh ! The Roast were not roast they were small little squares of potatoes fried. I was very embarrassed as I told my daughters how nice the food was, they said it was the worst sunday roast they had ever had, and I agreed with them. We couldnt eat it. Where the veg were are shrivelled up and dried out, the water made them worse. The small squares of potatoes were rock hard and unedible.
