Definitely the best (and only) place to drink in Saxmundham, which is a beer wasteland and sorely missing a decent boozer.. on a positive note walk the lovely half hour cross the fields walk to The Poachers pocket at Carlton. A fantastic country inn with great food and beer and knowledgeable landlord/landlady. Adnams Ghost ship and Broadside plus Black Sheep when I visited.. Seriously, probably the best pub in Suffolk..! As Tony Mitch states, its fair to say Saxmundham, whilst being a very pleasant town, isn't blessed with good pubs... I agree The Bell @ Sax, whilst being a hotel bar is definitely the place to drink. Seems the locals agree as well because it always seems busy. Lacons Legacy, Southwold bitter and, my favourite Cotleigh Sorachi on pump Friday 19th July, which is a pretty decent choice. Restaurant looked good, and you can also get bar snacks. Little courtyard to rear. Recommended.... Barrow_Beer_Hunter - 20 Jul 2019 09:07 |
Nice hotel with bar for the public. 3 beers, ignoring the metal T bar for the fizzy pop. Adnams Southwold in very good condition, TT landlord and Tribute. Food good, staff nice. In the desert that is Saxmundham, this is the place to drink. TonyMitch - 22 Nov 2016 19:45 |
We had an excellent short-break here recently. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and our room (no.4) was clean, very spacious and comfortable. The small but nicely furnished bar had Timothy Taylor Landlord and Adnams’ Southwold Bitter on handpump. Being the local brew I had several pints of Adnams which were well kept, but at £3.90 a pint very much OTT pricewise !!! steve2905 - 3 Jun 2013 06:06 |
I found the hotel to be fantastic, great value & the staff were really helpful & the rooms spotless (Had room 6). Will defo use again. As for the bar or the food I cannot comment surfice to say the locals didnt have a good word to say about it! Man_on_ground - 6 Oct 2012 16:21 |
