visited on a Sunday night and barely a soul in there. Two TV screens showing the same football match. Nothing wrong with the place and seems OK....three beers on tap at time of visit Doom, and two Hobgoblins....I had the amber which was in good condition. ridleyman - 24 Sep 2019 12:00 |
According to the Good Beer Guide this pub opens at 11 - but there must have been 60 or 70 customers when I arrived at twenty past on Saturday. Busy town-centre bar with a good atmosphere, obviously popular with the locals who seemed to be partial to coffee and chips for breakfast. Almost a full range of Adnams' ales available, with London Pride as a guest, but my pint of Southwold bitter although drinkable could have been in better condition. Stamfordian - 19 Mar 2012 12:29 |
You can get an idea of what this place must have looked like inside in years gone by and it wouldn't take much to put it back to something like its original layout (a few screens etc to make snugs and small rooms for example). It was very cosy when we went but does not really live up to Good Beer Guide standards and my opinion. The Adnams was very average and the other beer was London Pride which is a shame considering the number of local micro-breweries in the county. Service was brusk and it is annoying when a barperson serves you whilst chatting away to his/her mates at the same time. I would probably goo back again just to verify my views or hopefully have them changed! mcroyal - 27 Nov 2011 13:09 |
Scruffhouse pub on the marketplace with well worn seating/flooring/staff/clientelle. Suffered a barely drinkable pint of Adnams and find it quite hard to believe that this pub is in the GBG. It does serve a number of ales - badly. anonymous - 11 Jun 2011 23:20 |
Went to Mannings today. Ordered two pints of fosters for 6.30 which were fine, but the barmaid had to be retrieved from the garden as she was smoking, no sign of hands washed which isn't particularly nice, and when I asked for two pints, she replied "is that it?" as if I should have been ordering more than two drinks for two people. So customer service was below average. Tables were sticky and the place looked as though it just needed a good clean. Ordered the steak pie and my partner had the bacon cheese burger. The food arrived in a timely fashion, and I was bit disappointed to see that there was no gravy with my pie, chips & peas. The peas.... Ah slightly on the brown shade of the green spectrum, which given that birds eye do excellent frozen peas is no excuse for using 'cheap' peas. Imagine my horror when I open the "steak" pie to find some over cooked dried out stewing steak from a can. The chips were decent, the burger slightly too much cheese, but otherwise ok. For a prominent location I can't help but think the management are missing a trick here. A decent steak pie should be the backbone of decent real pub. I feel cheated out of the best part of 20 and will not be going back. barneygumble - 20 Jun 2010 17:07 |
