While realising that it is one of the best outlets for real ale in the city it does have the feel of 'cosy' dog basket. A bit worn round the edges.

Three words greeted us on entry - Titanic Plum Porter - which was enough to afford this pub at least a 9. Utterly superb pub next to its rival, The Victoria in the shadow of the Castle Walls and hence, tremendously well located while the range of ales beyond the sublime TPP was outstandingly well chosen too. Supposedly haunted by a dog, the stuffed version of which can be seen in the castle (once used as a prison) while the pub was once a good vantage point to view a hanging. It was also once owned by Britain's last hangman, Albert Pierrepoint, played by Timothy Spall in the eponymous film.

Small cosy pub serving quality ale, a must when in the city.

This small pub was very busy yesterday lunchtime but the barman still had time for a little banter and the group of friends on a beer day out from Nottingham were also friendly. Three regular handpulls (Greene King Abbot, St Austell Tribute & Timothy Taylor Landlord) plus six rotating guest ales - I had a superb pint of Acorn's Gorlovka Imperial Stout. Well worth visiting.

Great real ale pub near the Cathedral. Small snug and main bar, real fires, great beers well kept and a very good choice. Counted 9 handpumps. Timothy Taylor was excellent. Freindly locals and staff, a real traditional local with plenty of interesting nik naks and loads of beer mats hanging from the ceilings and around the walls.

Will definitely be back when we come to Lincoln again.
