Beer OK, they had 3 ales on, of which I had a pint of Young's. Food wasOK but portions were a little on the small side. Service was OK. IMG1975 - 27 Jan 2012 14:06 |
Friendly staff and pretty well-kept ales. Found the whole 'sports pub' aspect a bit annoying - but then I don't "do" sport I suppose. All-in-all, not too bad a place if you're in town. littledrummerboy - 2 Nov 2011 21:27 |
Blimey, what's happened? Have been in a few times in recent years and would normally be my spot for taking someone out for a pub lunch. Got there today and something must have happened in the bar area because there's a big machine with a fan (?dehumidifier?) which was quite noisy. The bar area is looking quite tired now, after the excellent refurb of a few years ago. There's a good set of veggie choices on the menu but with the exception of a pasta dish they were all off. We drunk up and went somewhere much better (though the BITE ratings wouldn't tell you this). Joffee - 9 Sep 2011 15:43 |
I didnt think this was going to be any good from afar but glad I made the effort to get there. It offers a bit of everything really, theres B&B accommodation (75/95 for single/double inc breakfast), a restaurant and a drinkers bar at the front with Sky Sports. The menu covers bar snacks to full meals. Ales are Eagle IPA, Bombardier and a changing guest which was Brains Merlins Oak on my visit - Idseen this in a few places locally. Service was excellent, the place seems well run and I got the impression they often try new ideas to improve their offering. Despite the small drinkers bar in relation to the restaurant area this is a pub that Id recommend. Millay - 4 Oct 2009 21:02 |
Spent a very enjoyable Saturday evening here, the meal was wonderfully cooked and of superior quality to others in Harpenden, the restaurant intimate and the staff friendly and accomodating. I would recommend The Silver Cup to anyone looking for a 'proper' meal, not just a mass produced chain menu or an over priced 'locally sourced' cop out. A refreshing change! ikati - 8 Feb 2009 21:15 |
