| The Idle Beerhouse was my second stop in Idle. The Idle Draper just opposite would have been more enjoyable had it not been so packed. The Saltaire Triple Chocaholic I had there was lovely. The selection in the Idle Beerhouse was not quite so good. But, the drinking environment was much more comfortable. There were 3 real ales - Timothy Taylor Landlord, Goose Eye Whitaker's Golden Revenge & Stod Fold Calypso. There were a few craft beers, but no real cider, despite having had Hogan's visiting for a sampling session earlier in the week. No CAMRA discount was given on halves. | Visited on a Friday evening around 5pm. Six hand pumps at the bar so plenty of real ale to choose from. The barmaid seemed knowledgeable and was discussing the hoppiness of various ales with another customer. I went for a pint of the Sneaky Peep by Salamander Brewing Company, 4% at £3.02 for the pint. I'd describe it as golden, pale, slightly hoppy, and very drinkable! There is a lower seating area to the front of the pub then a raised bar area and side passage leading to a bit more seating and then the outdoor terrace. There are seven tables outside and although not much of a suntrap at the time of my visit, I imagine this varies depending on time of day. I'd recommend a visit and next time I am in the area I will try and pop in and sample a pint of something else. Decent looking pub, decent selection, and priced not to break the bank. | This is a great place to visit in Summer and drink real ale on the terrace. However, if driven indoors by the weather it tends to lean towards the food side of things - which is good but rather expensive. Definitely worth a visit, but unlike other pubs owned by the same guys (Especially the Narrow Boat in Skipton) it feels more like a restaurant. Ginsoakedboy - 4 Jan 2009 23:33 |
