Situated in great walking country - the Chiltern Way runs from the pub car park. Impressive looking pub inside and out. Very busy on a Sunday Lunch - and not just with diners - a high number of regular drinkerss were at the top part in a separate bar area. A couple of wood burning stoves. Beer wise - Greene king - so not the most exciting selection imaginable. Mappiman - 10 Dec 2018 14:33 |
Well, we have returned on many occasions, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience but the last was a disaster. After a two hour wait, I asked if they were still serving food, as it had gone 21:00, and asked if there was any danger of ours arriving in the near future? Three of the four meals arrived, the other had been left off the ticket............. We were not charged for the meal or our drinks, and the apologies were profuse. We were told that the were going through a difficult time with staff. From what I have read on Trip Advisor, they have been going through a difficult time with everything since the beginning of the year. Another return visit? Not for a long time. Shame really............ Phantom_Pigeon - 14 Apr 2016 12:36 |
Like previous reviewers, I'm not a great fan of Greene King pubs, as most seem to serve GK IPA (which is one of the poorest beers ever brewed), and nothing else, but The Bridgewater Arms did have Abbot and Golden Hen, which wasn't too bad. The food was OK for me and reasonably priced.....and Ronnie Wood popped in for an afternoon tipple....which was nice. Perry - 18 Mar 2015 00:59 |
Staff in the pub are very friendly - they were very apologetic about the lack of tables when we arrived late on a Sunday lunchtime (warning: book a table early if you want to eat). Luckily there was a small table in the bar area available. Food was reasonable priced, served quickly and was OK (two of us had venison cottage pie, one had a chicken salad), but menu disappointingly is typical pub fare (burgers, scampi et. al.), so nothing to write home about. Beer also, being Greene King, was mainly uninspiring. ( IPA is bland, Abbot too strong), but the occasional beer was London Glory (4%) which was served up well. Overall a pretty average pub, the staff being the best aspect, but for the lunchtime pub on a full days country walk, we wish we had researched more and gone elsewhere. I agree with thewickingman about the location and the beer selection. I am not a great fan of GK beers in any of their various guises. However, the food was very good in portion size and flavours. The welcome was friendly and the place itself was warm and comfortable. A return visit will definitely be on the cards. Phantom_Pigeon - 20 Nov 2012 17:36 |
