Reading through these reviews all I can say is what a load of rubbish that people have written. We regularly visit this pub as we live locally, it is the only pub in the village that is good now. The landlady and landlord have done a considerable amount of work since the last reviews, turning the old front restaurant and lounge bar in to one room, they've also redecorated and have plans to convert one of the out buildings in to accommodation. There's always a good selection of real ales, and they're kept in top condition, if there is a ever a problem it is rectified quickly. The staff are friendly and really attentive as well. As for the comment earlier about staff in own clothes, yes they do wear their own clothes but are still presentable. I can't help but think the previous reviewers have a bee in their bonnet about the place reopening? The pricing is competitive, and I've paid far more for a pint in other pubs in the village, this pub is the cheapest by far. The Sunday Roast is definitely the best. Meat cooked beautifully every time we've been there, and it's £13 for 3 courses. Really good value for money. People just need to give it a chance again I think. After the mistakes previous management made it's amazing how well the current lot are doing. It appears people's opinions die hard. Alternativebanana - 19 May 2013 22:52 |
I agree with thefirkintaster and Scotia001, was a joke when we went, waiting time was too much and as it was not busy could not see why and no real customer service or presentation, staff in own clothes very sloppy looking. Average food, place could do with a good clean, smelt of dog and carpet covered in white hair, Think the place could do with being bought up to date would not go back again nothing special. Found the landlady and landlord to be full of talk but not much doing about it. Can see why it will take a long time to rebuild the trade. onashoestring - 23 Nov 2009 15:43 |
This pub has very recently been taken over by a couple who have some great ideas for getting the trade back up and running after a considerable time under other managers and closure. It's going to take a while to get back up on it's feet, but they will get there. The frontage is looking much improved with the new planted window boxes in full bloom. Yes, the place does look shut, but it's not! From chatting with the landlady, there is a problem with opening up the front door - the previous encubants removed the bar from the bar room! She has no where to serve from in there. The lounge bar and gardens, however are open. The food is good and well priced. Steak night on Wednesdays and varous themed food evenings have been met with great enthusiasm by the locals. The beer is well kept & the bar staff really friendly. I wish the new landlady every success. BunnyMyHoney - 20 Jul 2009 14:22 |
Bit of a shame, it took so long to get served that I walked out... thefirkintaster - 4 Jul 2009 10:41 |
Oh dear. This was once a thriving successful pub, but now looks slightly worn out and tired. It actually looks closed when you drive past it. All it would take is for the frontage to be spruced up, some new plants, bright flowers and green foliage to the window boxes - make the place look 'open' for business again. The price of a pint was extortionate however, more in keeping with a Top Inn, not a sleepy village pub. Clean the place, dress it up - do the garden, cut the grass, plant some flowers and charge 'reasonable' prices, and I bet this place would thrive again. scotia001 - 24 Jun 2009 15:29 |
