The quintessential English pub... a fantastic find if your out this way... the garden could be out of gardeners world (I half expected Monty Don to be pruning the roses!).. Harvey's Sussex best and IPA.. didn't eat but food looked great... Barrow_Beer_Hunter - 4 Aug 2021 07:21 |
Called in for a midweek meal with Mrs Ropey. Welcoming fire burning in the hearth and the Steak and Ale pie was excellent but this isn't a food critique site so to the important stuff.... Perfectly served straight from the cask in the cold-room the Harvey's Best, Old, and Star of Eastbourne were all in top condition. Always worth making the effort to get here. ropey2 - 27 Oct 2012 20:22 |
We used this pub a lot about 30-35 years ago, and to be honest it hasn't changed much in that time. Went again Sep 8th (didn't eat there though) and felt at home again straightaway. Surprisingly, on a beautiful sunny Saturday lunchtime, it didn't get overcrowded (maybe the food prices are a bit high ?). One of the best country pubs in England imho. N.b. it opens at 11 (12 on Sundays) so get there early ! davercox - 19 Sep 2012 10:54 |
I wholeheartedly agree with ParsonDarby, five comments below. We sat in the garden on a midweek July afternoon and it was glorious (if busy) and what a garden! Any pub that pours ale straight from the cask is a winner in my book. Will definitely be back if walking The Downs again in this, glorious part of the world. BiffoBeer - 31 Jul 2012 14:11 |
Five years since I last visited and it's still a picture of a pub. I'm not a huge fan of Harveys beers but they all seemed in good condition. The menus's not hugely extensive but everything we had was pretty good and fairly priced. The service remains excellent (very fast too considering it was quite crowded). Psi - 13 Apr 2012 11:03 |
