Not really a bar at all, more of a restaurant. As soon as it gets busy in the evening the bar area is swallowed up by dining tables. Similar sort of atmosphere to the Canbury Arms down the road for those who've been there. anonymous - 5 May 2006 16:58 |
Visited last friday, what a fantastic spot, great for a beer and some tapas, my friend really enjoy her fish cakes, those sofas are so invinting that i am going again these week. classy - 2 May 2006 22:47 |
Great to walk down Park Road and not see or hear the expected rabble of little oiks congregating on the wall outside the old Borough Arms. This is the only benefit I am aware of since the Pottery came on the scene. Looks very popular by the throng of customers until you go inside and find more room on the back seat of a porsche. Tried to sit at a turn of the century old school desk and failed miserably - couldn't get my legs under the table and the adjacent table had been moved so they could fit. Requested assistance 3 times to alleviate what should have been a minor inconvenience, easily resolved. The apparent manager seemed to think that this request was unreasonable and threatened not to serve if we objected again. We promptly left in disgust and amazement at the lack of customer service from the manager, to say nothing of his diplomacy skills, something I would compare to the previous clientelle. With hindsight, I would have had a better eating experience at MacDonalds. Avoid like the plague!! hotmonkey - 11 Apr 2006 16:01 |
As a local resident, any change to the old Borough Arms which rids the neighbourhood of the low-life scum who used to be its clientelle - then good luck to you. However, I have to confess that even though I live very close, I still walk past The Pottery on my way to the Canbury Arms. I'm afraid it's the sight of standard dross mega-brands on the bar says that the place is short on imagination. Like the Canbury, it too feels as if it wants to attract a discerning audience - but the sight of Fosters says otheriwse. Yes, perhaps I'm not young enough to be its target market, but the prospect of beers like Harveys, Hogs Back and Tim Taylors at the Canbury will keep on getting my vote. norbitonpaul - 16 Mar 2006 13:45 |
They may run the Tapestry in Mortlake, but they have got some work to do on this place. Took the Mrs for something to eat a cpouple of weeks ago. The decor is ok in a predictable ,scrubbed wood and cream paint sort of way and the bar looks well stocked. The staff are very polite (if a little OVER attentive - we were asked if "everything is alright" 5 times whilst waiting for the food to arrive). The food was not good. It wasn't bad, but for the price should have been one hell of a lot better. The whole enterprise just has the image of a place that hasn't had enough money spent on it. Cheaply renovated, polite but inexperienced staff, poor execution in the kitchen, limited and odd winelist. Save your dosh and go to the Canbury Arms instead - its only a ten/fifteen minute walk away. Sloth - 6 Mar 2006 16:00 |
